Pantone just announced their color of the year – Very Peri. It’s a dynamic periwinkle blue hue with a violet red undertone. Similarly, the major paint brands have started putting out a Color of the Year. They study past trends and environmental factors to then forecast upcoming color and decor trends. A unique coincidence occurred for 2022, almost all of the major paint brands chose a shade of green!
While you might find this surprising, green is a hue that people tend to feel very comfortable around. While primarily associated with nature, it represents growth, freshness and harmony making people feel safe and secure. Lighter greens, which bring to mind the new growth of spring, feel more energetic. And, don’t we all need that after 2020 and 2021!?
From light, mint green to dramatic, forest green, the color looks great in any room – kitchens, bathrooms, living areas and bedrooms. Plus, the earthy tone goes with just about everything, whether your existing color scheme includes neutrals, blues, gold, black, etc.
It’s also interesting to take a look at past trends. As we know, history repeats itself! If we look back to the post-Spanish Flu pandemic in the 1920s, greens were a very popular paint color for both the interior and exterior.
In addition to green, you’ll also be seeing more warm neutrals. Yes, it seems that gray is on the way out making room for more warmer whites, creams and beige tones.
So, what do you think about this trend? Are you going to incorporate hues of green into your home? It doesn’t have to be as semi-permanent as paint or tile. Add in some gorgeous accent pillows or other home decor to add a fresh perspective to your space.
