5 Essential Spring Cleaning Tips and Free Printable Checklist

As the weather starts to warm up and flowers begin to bloom, it’s the perfect time to give your home a fresh start with some spring cleaning. As a real estate agents, we know that a clean and organized home can make a huge difference when it comes to selling a property. But even if you’re not planning to sell, a little spring cleaning can make your home feel refreshed and welcoming.

Here are some tips to help you tackle your spring cleaning:

          Start with a Plan

Before you begin, take a moment to make a plan. Decide which areas of your home need the most attention and make a list of tasks to complete in each room. Having a plan will help you stay organized and focused as you work. In need of a full-on deep clean? Check out our free Spring Cleaning Checklist printable to help with your plan!

          Declutter

One of the best things you can do to make your home feel refreshed and more organized is to declutter. Go through each room and get rid of anything you no longer need or use. This includes old clothes, books, toys, and any other items that are taking up space. Consider donating or selling items that are still in good condition. Some of our favorite local charities to donate items to in the area include: The FSS of MFSD Resale Shop and Serendipity Resale Shop.

          Clean from Top to Bottom

When it comes to cleaning, start at the top of the room and work your way down. This means dusting ceiling fans and light fixtures first, then cleaning walls, windows, and floors. Don’t forget to wipe down baseboards and door frames as well.

          All in the Details

As you clean each room, be sure to pay attention to the details. This means wiping down light switch plates, cleaning blinds and curtains, and polishing furniture. Don’t forget to clean inside drawers and cabinets as well.

          Outdoor Maintenance

Spring cleaning isn’t contained to just the inside of your home. The gutters, windows and deck could probably use some sprucing up, too. Spread out the work between a few weekends so you can still enjoy your free time as well!

By following these spring cleaning tips, you’ll be able to give your home a fresh start for the new season. And if you’re planning to sell your home in the near future, a clean and organized home will make a great impression on potential buyers.
